History

This charity was set up in 1525 by the will of Richard Wright. He left land in trust, the rent from which would be for ” repairing and keeping of the clock in the Parish Church of St. Vigors, and the ringing of the curfew-bell and the day-bell; and any money over to be employed upon repairing the steeple and bell in the said parish ”

In 2020 the Trustees widened the objects of the Charity to include work throughout the Church and churchyard, and, by giving grants, to advance any purposes with charitable public benefit in the parish.

In 2020 the Trustees sold about half of the Clock land, thus gaining an enormous windfall.

A new Charity, Wrights Clock Land CIO (1191655), with the same Objects and Trustees as the Old Charity, and a new constitution was registered with the Charity Commission in October 2020.
